Collaboration with the Buffalo Fatherhood Initiative

The Center for Children and Families WNY and the Buffalo Prenatal Perinatal Network have teamed up to collaborate to support male caregivers. This includes fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and any other male caregiver who makes a positive impact on a child.

Through funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the teams will run positive parenting programs to support parenting.

A father/male caregiver makes a meaningful and unique difference in health child development! Our team is working with fathers to help them improve their child’s happiness, sports and play skills, and self-esteem.

A family is eligible if:

  • There is a child 3-6 years old in the family
  • The male caregiver can attend the weekly activities with the child

What happens if you are eligible?

If you qualify for the study, the family will be randomly assigned to one of thee groups:

  • Parent and child play activities
  • The Nurturing Fathers parent program
  • The Nurturing Fathers parent program + shared parent-child sports activities

There is no fee for participating in the study. You will be invited to attend one of the three groups for eight weeks.

Is there compensation for my time?

Any parent who completes study measures will receive $50 each time. There are three possible times to complete measures – before, after, and 1-month after the program.
