Due to COVID-19, we are unable to host our 2020 summer camp programs in person. Our clinic is fully operational and we continue to conduct individual and group services through telehealth.

We continue to closely monitor the development of the coronavirus and to take preventive steps to ensure we keep our community, faculty and staff members as safe as possible. We continue to ask for your flexibility during this time as we continue to update you about our activities. Please stay alert to updates via our newsletterFacebook and Twitter.

Apply for Positions

Applications accepted through Spring 2020. There is no application deadline, but we do receive a large number of applications, so apply early. Once positions have been filled, additional applicants will be placed on a waiting list.

Apply for a position using our online form. You may list a first and second choice position, and all applications will be considered for all available positions.

  • You will be asked to provide the names, titles and contact information for the people who will be submitting letters of recommendation on their behalf. You may also upload supplemental information such as a resume or curriculum vitae and cover letter.
  • Three academic or professional letters of recommendation should be sent directly from recommenders via the application portal or to stpjobs@fiu.edu with the subject line “Letter of Recommendation for [your name].”
  • Official college or university transcripts should be sent directly from your transcript office or service to stpjobs@fiu.edu, or in a sealed official envelope to FIU Center for Children and Families-STP Internships, 11200 S.W. 8th Street, AHC1 146, Miami, FL 33199.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Responsibilities and Expenses

Dates, hours, salary and responsibilities for all positions vary by program and position.

Room, board and travel expenses are not covered. Accepted staff members interested in finding roommates will have the opportunity to make housing and carpool arrangements via social media.

  • Recommendation Letters

You should request letters of recommendation from people who know you well and can speak about your skills in relation to the position for which you are applying. Your letters may be academic, professional or personal in nature.

You should request letters of recommendation from professors and teaching assistants who know you well. If you have worked in a research lab, you should consider requesting a letter from your research supervisor.

If you have worked with children in a school setting, summer camp, after-school program or sports/recreation program, you should consider asking your supervisor at that program to submit a recommendation in support of your application. If you played on a sports team, you should consider asking your coach to submit a letter in support of your application. Coaches may be able to write about teamwork, leadership, and your ability to work under pressure in ways that other recommenders may not.

You may request personal letters of recommendation from people who know you well and can describe your strengths and skills. However, given the competitive nature of the application process, we recommend that some of your letters are academic or professional in nature.

You may submit more than three letters of recommendation in support of your application. The three recommenders you listed on your application forms will receive direct links to upload their letters. You may tell any additional recommenders to send their letters directly via email to stpjobs@fiu.edu.

If you substitute a recommender, please inform us of the substitution. The new recommender should send your letter of recommendation to stpjobs@fiu.edu.

  • Transcripts and Grade Reports

You must submit your official college transcripts in order for your application packet to be considered complete. Official transcripts should be submitted via your school’s Registrar’s Office or transcript service. If you expect a delay in the processing of your official transcript, you may submit an unofficial transcript or grade report in support of your application. However, you will need to submit your official transcript when it becomes available.

  • Notification and Interviews

After you submit your application form, you must ensure that your letters of recommendation and transcripts are submitted in a timely manner in order to make your application packet complete. Completed application packets are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Applicants who are selected for interviews will be notified after their applications have been reviewed. We will continue interviewing until all positions are filled. Due to the large number of applications we receive and the number of STP positions available, a significant amount of time is required to complete the review process.

Applicants living outside the Miami area may interview remotely.

  • International Students

International students currently studying in the United States on an F-1 Visa may be eligible to participate in the STP if their current college or university is able to approve their participation as Optional Practical Training or Curricular Practical Training. Contact your international student services office to inquire about an authorization for the OPT/CPT options. We are not able to sponsor visa applications for students who wish to travel to the United States in order to work in the program. Additional information about OPT and CPT is available at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

  • Summer Treatment Program Locations

The Summer Treatment Program will be held at Paul Bell Middle School, 11800 NW 2nd Street, Miami, FL 33182, about 1.9 miles from the main entrance of FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus. Please do not contact Paul Bell Middle School with questions regarding the STP.

Some staff training activities will take place on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

Participants are responsible for making their own housing arrangements. Each summer, there are many STP staff members from outside the Miami area who are interested in finding roommates and sharing housing. Once accepted to a position, staff members will have the opportunity to join a social media group to meet and communicate with other staff members to make housing and carpool arrangements.
