Free Parent Workshop on conversation techniques to foster learning & development

Event information
Venue:AHC-4 Room 101

Did you know that how parents discuss past events with their children helps foster their memory, language, and emotional development?

Do you wish that you could get more from conversations with your child?

Do you worry that your child sometimes says things that are not true?

Two FIU Center for Children and Families’ faculty, Drs. Lindsay Malloy and Zoe Klemfuss, are experts in the field of discussing past events with children and are hosting a free workshop for parents to answer these and other questions. The workshop will focus on research-based conversational tools that parents can use to encourage children to give more lengthy, detailed, and accurate reports, and to discuss their thoughts and emotional reactions to their experiences. These techniques can have benefits in a variety of contexts, including in the classroom. The workshop will be held at 10am on June 21, 2014 at FIU Academic Health Center (AHC) 4 in Room 101. Free childcare will be provided. Metered parking is available on the 1st floor in Parking Garage 5 or the Red Garage (off of 8th St at 109th Ave. entrance to FIU campus) located directly across the street from AHC 4.
